1 day training

What would happen to our bodywork practice if we approached it less like a ‘therapy’ and more like an improvisational dance duet or movement research?
To elevate a bodywork session from a series of ‘techniques’ toward a shared moment of poetry that sweeps the receiver away, we must move with the qualities of a dancer. To enter that territory, we need fluency of body, spontaneity, curiosity, risk, heartfelt expression – a willingness to go into the unknown. We need be genuinely emotionally moved, ourselves; we need to conceive of the work we are doing not as therapy but as a piece of moving art being co-created in real time. Like when the jazz musicians get together and play, or we have a beautiful verbal conversation that continues to sing in us for weeks, or when the dance ensemble improvises, or the rapper freestyles – we have to put ourselves in this frame of mind. When we stay in the domain of techniques, our work loses its sense of aliveness; it will become stagnant and lacking in beauty
In this one-day advanced workshop, we will break the patterns of traditional technique and settle into something much more subtle and much more important. Using biomechanical anatomy as our foreground, we will learn movement pathways and shapes that we can use as the basis for our bodywork. leaning into expressivity, curiosity, and safe risk-taking, we will purposefully break the molds of traditional bodywork to open the possibilities of what bodywork can be and what forms it can take.
what is kikokara
Kikokara weaves wisdom from thai-yoga massage, reiki, somatic psychotherapy and dance. It is a holistic bodywork practice that finds it’s ground in heartfelt connection. It is guided by principles of non-forcing, fluid movement and spacious listening – inviting the receivers’ body to unfurl without expectation. Kikokara venerates the body as its own healer, holding all the intelligence it needs to heal itself. It helps people remember how to let the body lead – how to let this ancient system guide us. The deeper inspiration of kikokara is to reconnect human beings to the broader cosmology of which we a part; it is ultimately in and through the body that this connection is remembered.

When we embody grace, our touch becomes a gift inviting others to soften
